No Promotion Prince!

I listened to Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum again and got to thinking these are great records that are not being promoted right. Since there release we have seen Prince actually promote these records at the Live Internet Concert on Yahoo, and Saturday Night Live. At the yahoo event no songs from AOA was played but PE got love,  Saturday Night Live he started off with Clouds then played PlectrumElectrum,  Marz, and Anotherlove.  I thought Clouds sounded so good he would jam to that for a few but no it was stopped short.

Then the once again infamous leaving the internet again it makes one wonder "How will he promote his new material?" Leave it up to Warner Bros.? Well they have taken the helm as far as videos, releasing on there Youtube page FunknRoll, Anotherlove, and Marz. Is this enough and if not what does he have planned now in 2015. I do have a feeling that things will pick up and he knows that his fan base will keep him fresh as we always have, I almost feel like we as his fans have promoted AOA & PE great for him which may have been the plan all along.

Why Has Prince Left The Internet? Again!

There are several theories on why he left the internet, from his taking down videos off of the 3rdeyegirl YouTube page, Twitter gone, Instagram gone, Facebook gone. If fans remember the last time he left he really didn't, he released "Extraloveable" on iTunes,  there was the jazz version of "In A Large Room With No Light", "Purple & Gold", "Hot Summer", "Rich Friends", and "Cause and Effect". So through it all he has maintained some presence on the net. 

Now in 2014 With 2 new albums out, maybe a Purple Rain 30th Anniversary Release, him leaving the net now doesn't make sense. We really shouldn't be surprised this has happened let's be honest this isn't the first time or the last that Prince has done something to raise our eyebrows. Maybe some of the rumors are true that we've heard or maybe he is getting ready for a new campaign.  3rdeyegirl.com still has social media links that are still there although dead you would think that they would be deleted, there YouTube page still up with no videos. These things are easily deleted and done with if he was rejecting the net again, he's leaving traces he is not.

Plus with all the young talent he's working with they haven't deleted there social media pages so I think it's highly doubtful that he has left. I think there is more to come hopefully and His Royal Badness is trying to do something else to connect with us and bring us a much more enjoyable experience.

The Time - Live At The Roxy Theater 2/16/82.

On February 16th, 1982 The Time put on an amazing show at The Roxy Theatre, Los Angeles, CA. They headlined this show performing 6 songs The Stick, After Hi School, Oh Baby, Get It Up, Cool, all from there 1st Album and a new song called Dance 2 The Beat. The Band looks in top shape Morris is full of energy, he even asked for a mirror twice which Jerome was glad to bring to him. Jesse Johnson's guitar playing is on point through and through. What really makes this release special is the last song they performed "Dance 2 The Beat" the purple 1 himself Prince joined them on stage. Merely singing a few lines but enough to get the crowd hyper. Dance 2 The Beat reminds me of songs like "Jack U Off" and "Delirious" Jesse Johnson Guitar work is great on this song. This has to be one the best shows I seen The Time do this is highly recommended.

Classic MPLS: The Time Ice Cream Castles

Released July 9th 1984 The Time's Ice Cream Castles LP was there 3rd studio album. With majority of the album being written and recorded by Prince with little input from band members except Morris Day and Jesse Johnson. I really like the album more today then back in the day, the 3 singles Ice Cream Castles,  Jungle Love, and The Bird I thought was great, My Drawers is definitely the sleeper to me with a fast and up beat funky groove. Besides all the songs on this release has grown on me, Jungle Love and The Bird  are amazing songs and I love there place in Purple Rain The Movie. "If The Kid Can't Make You Come" is a ok ballad, "Chili Sauce" is an extended of what Morris was saying to Apollonia at the table in the 1st Avenue in Purple Rain. This is a great release worthy of a listen even if it's just the association to Purple Rain, but for this album can stand on its own.

Classic MPLS: Vanity 6 Self Titled Album

Released August 11th 1982 I like to call this the year of the Triple Threat also formally the name of the tour. For me the year of the Triple Threat consists of 3 Classic Albums Prince's 1999, The Time's What Time Is It?, and Vanity 6's Self Titled . First let me say the Vanity 6 album is a classic, and the original name for the group was "The Hookers" who left an unfinished album when Prince went on the Controversy Tour. I don't know how you all feel but I was 8 years old when this record came out and as a young boy it turned me out, beautiful women half naked running around singing "Nasty Girl" and "Drive Me Wild". Things I couldn't understand at that age but the images look good. The music was a different story as it was explicit especially for 1982 songs like "Nasty Girl" and "Wet Dream" can easily be classified as some of the nastiest songs at the time. "Drive Me Wild" is a funk driven hardcore track and may be my favorite. Seven of the eight song were written or co-written by Prince with He's So Dull being written by Dez Dickerson.  This a great Classic album and very explicit for the time and nowadays Vanity 6 may have been the platform for a lot of the Sexyness going on today.

Classic MPLS: Sheila E. The Glamorous Life

Released June 4th 1984 Sheila E's The Glamorous Life is another flawless classic coming out of the Prince camp. Credits say Directed by Sheila E. and The Starr Company. All honesty all songs on this album was were written by Prince with some input by Sheila E. To me when the credits say "Directed" it puts you in a mood like your listening to a movie on wax. Each track flows together like a stream of water but no song out trumps another, although I have my favorites. I've read that at the time of these album sessions Sheila E. was uncomfortable with her vocals, vocally I think she done great as she came with the Sexyness in her voice which I think got her over. All in all a great classic album and another brick added to the Purple House definitely worthy of a few spins.

Classic MPLS: The Family Self Titled Album

1985 was a great year for music The Family's self titled LP falls into that classic realm of albums. With 7 out of 8 tracks being written by Prince this is one of the best associate artist albums and all around great albums. Released August 19th 1985 this record is a mixture of super funk and great jazz to me, this album was the first Prince-related release to feature saxophone by Eric Leeds and string orchestration by Clare Fischer which makes it awesome. This record by far is one of the reason we as fans of Prince love him so much because with this album he proved he could go so far left and make it sound great. I remember the 1st time I heard this record I was blowed away by the different arrangement of music, strings, and vocals. My favorite tracks are High Fashion, Nothing Compares 2 U, And The Screams Of Passion, I'm always in debates about what version of Nothing Compares 2 U is better, The Family's Version Prince and Rosie's Live Version, or Sinéad O'Connor's. Time after time I have to say The Family's version is my favorite. Over all this is a great edition to your collection and great music so check it out if you haven't.
